MINUTES OF JULY MEETING

FLOYD MEMORIAL LIBRARY
Minutes (approved) of regular meeting July 11, 2011.

Members present: Rosemary Gabriel, Seth Kaufman, Melina Angelson, Buffy Hartmann, Rebecca Miller and Director Lisa Richland.

Absent: Diane Mulvaney.

The Board meeting was called to order at 7:04 pm.

Jason Odell of Irwin & Odell, CPA, the library’s accounting firm, presented the audited financial statement to the board.

The minutes of June 6, 2011 were approved on motion of 1) Angelson, 2) Miller, unanimous.

The bills were ordered paid on motion of 1) Hartmann, 2) Gabriel, unanimous. The treasurer’s reports were accepted and filed for audit.

Communications:
A letter was received from the Suffolk County Library System congratulating Director Richland on her completion of the Advanced Seminar in Public Library Administration.

A letter was received from Kevin A. Seaman, the Library’s attorney regarding the possibility of the library repaying the Suffolk County Industrial Development Authority Bond prior to its original end-date. It is the opinion of Seaman that upon repayment of the bond the Library would no longer be authorized to collect the annual levy from Greenport and Oysterponds school district taxpayers.

Director’s Report:
A bid was received from Noble Elevator for replacement of the elevator in the amount of $62,000. Bids for the shaft demolition and re-construction are being solicited. The elevator work is expected to take 6 weeks. The Library will apply for the New York State grant to help defray the cost of the project.

The Library budget notice is being prepared and will be sent to Greenport and Oysterponds taxpayers via US Mail and e-mail.

The Director wishes to attend the 2011 NYLA annual meeting in Saratoga Springs, NY in early November 2nd. The board agreed to and approved the trip.

Committees:
Ground & Garden – Bricks have been fixed and areas replanted in front of the library. Planters were fixed in the garden and the back ramp cleaned and sanded.

Friends Liaison – Sale of raffle tickets in ongoing. Friends had a table at the Greenport Farmers’ Market to promote the raffle.

New business:
Rebecca Miller was appointed to the Policy & Personnel committee.

Richard Bonforte was nominated to remaining year of Nancy Fisher’s term as trustee.

Meeting adjourned at 8:05 on a motion of Angelson. The next meeting will be on September 12th at 7.00pm.
